Orphan Train

Words by Julie Tosh
Music by Douglas Levine

First developmental workshop at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, August 16 – 19, 2010.

Directed by Kellee Van Aken
Musical Direction by Douglas Levine

Cast: Gabby McClinton, Sheridan Singleton, Alex Noble and Lisa Ann Goldsmith

Show Description:

Francie and Sissy awaken on a train in Texas (circa 1928) to discover their mother has left them alone with their baby sister, Rose. When they learn from Mule, a street rat, that they’re on an Orphan Train bound for a new life, they’re not at all resigned to their fate. Meanwhile, Elise and Frankie, skipping school on a present day NYC subway train to Coney Island, encounter an old woman with a mysterious gold locket. This family friendly musical propels two trains toward a surprise ending that connects the present to a little known piece of American history.
